The Electric Chair for Lobsters?

Lobsters have been a big topic in the news recently. How do we kill the crustaceans humanely, so we can continue to enjoy their delicious meat? Being boiled or frozen alive takes a long time, and, as lobsters and crabs have nervous systems, they can feel pain. Even Whole Foods Market joined added their several cents to the matter. On June 16, 2006 WFM declared that their 180 stores would no longer sell live lobsters in an effort to treat animals fairly and without cruelty.

So, where does this leave the lobster lover? It leads them to a British lawyer and his wife, Simon and Charlotte Buckhaven. In 1997 the couple was upset when buying a lobster and hearing it scrape for its life inside a boiling pot. Mr. Buckhaven began to explore using electricity as a means to kill lobsters and crabs faster. After getting a patent and refining his invention with the help of others, the CrustaStun was invented. Evidently it can kill lobsters and crabs in 5 - 10 seconds and will be available to the public shortly.

Will people feel more inclined to eat crustaceans if they die quickly? Will people buy the CrustaStun? Will new methods be invented? If you had a choice, would you choose to be boiled alive, frozen to death, or electrocuted?
